Bangalore is known as the Silicon Valley of India. With a booming I.T industry and ample tertiary education, you'd be quick to think of Bangalore as merely a place of corporate work and play. The true Karnataka flavour however awaits just outside of the bustling city centre. Working on a volunteering project with 40K Globe, I spent one month living in the village of Meenakunte. It was here that I realised that the authentic India is found in the villages. Rusty looking foreigners with freckled skin and frizzy hair are a sight to the Indian people and they welcomed us warmly into their homes and lives. Whilst the extended village stay that I experienced allowed a deeper immersion into Indian culture, any short-term village stay would leave travellers rewarded with similar tales.
